Life-saving medicines immediately available in Burkina Faso Bad news about crises, disasters, and conflicts dominates the media. And yet, there is also good news that brings new hope and provides moments of light in everyday life. One example is the story of one-year-old Youssra, who was admitted as an emergency case to the AMPO clinic in Burkina Faso. For three days, the toddler suffered from dangerous symptoms such as diarrhea, vomiting, fever, and dehydration; her life was hanging by a thread. A neighbor advised the girl’s mother to take her to the nearby clinic. Here, a rotavirus infection was quickly suspected - a gastrointestinal disease that can be fatal for young children if left untreated. At the AMPO clinic in Burkina Faso, where health workers like Awa are on duty, the one-year-old was able to receive immediate treatment thanks to the medicines provided by action medeor and was discharged shortly afterward in good health. Suitable conditions for medicines in Somalia In Somalia in East Africa, medical care is hampered by the country’s political instability, deteriorating infrastructure, and disrupted supply chains. The consequences are visible in healthcare facilities. For example, the storage facility at the Hamar Jajab Referral Hospital in the Banadir region had become very outdated and offered hardly any adequate conditions for storing medicines. The problem is that if medicines are stored at excessively high temperatures over long periods, they can lose their effectiveness - and in the worst case, even harm patients. At the AMPO clinic in Burkina Faso, one-year-old Youssra was able to receive treatment because action medeor had supplied all the necessary medicines. Youssra’s mother is deeply grateful for this. action medeor has fully equipped the warehouse in Hamar Jajab in Somalia with medicines and specialized nutrition for malnourished children. Every medicine dispensed at the IDA pharmacy in Syria has traveled a long way. action medeor supplied essential medical goods from Tönisvorst to reach more than 60,000 patients. From our warehouse in Tönisvorst, we regularly send aid shipments of medicines and medical equipment around the world. 1 2 3 4 In cooperation with our partner organization WARDI, action medeor was able to renovate the central medical warehouse, provide necessary office equipment, and conduct training sessions for warehouse and pharmacy teams. The modernized storage facility was then stocked with medicines and medical supplies to enable the distribution of these resources to WARDI’s various healthcare facilities and thus provide targeted support to vulnerable population groups who would otherwise lack adequate access to healthcare due to conflicts, natural disasters, or unstable supply systems. This marks an important step for the provision of medicines in Somalia. More than 60,000 people reached in Syria People in northwestern Syria are also living under extremely difficult conditions; natural disasters, wars, and a complete collapse of the healthcare system mean that many lack access to medical care. Yassir is one of 60,000 people who have been displaced multiple times. The young man suffered from severe asthma attacks that kept him awake at night, fearing he might suffocate. At a pharmacy run by our partner organization, the Independent Doctors Association (IDA), he was given access to a salbutamol inhaler. As a result, his condition improved immediately. "It feels like a new life. Finally, I am no longer afraid of suffocating." Yassir Patient in the IDA-pharmacy action medeor has supplied the more than 20 healthcare facilities operated by our partner IDA with medicines. Together, we were able to reach more than 60,000 patients in Syria and provide access to life-saving treatment. Cases like Yassir’s show that what may be taken for granted elsewhere can mean the difference between life and death here. Every contribution makes a difference!
