Yemen

Since 2015, the population of Yemen has been suffering from the consequences of the ongoing armed conflict. The health system is barely functional anymore and more than half of the population is dependent on humanitarian aid.

According to the United Nations, Yemen is facing one of the worst humanitarian disasters of our time: the unstable political situation, violence and natural disasters mean that poverty, disease and hunger are on the rise. Around five million children under the age of five are suffering from acute malnutrition.

The situation in Yemen

  • About half of the people in Yemen do not have enough to eat and around five million children under the age of five suffer from acute malnutrition.
  • Several severe cholera epidemics have occurred in Yemen. In 2016, more than 1.7 million people in the country contracted the disease, and the outbreak is considered the most severe in history.
