Somalia New Kalkal health center Programs The health system in Somalia is very weak due to decades of conflict. The sad consequence: both maternal and infant mortality rates in the country are among the highest in the world. Women, internally displaced persons, the elderly and people with disabilities are particularly affected by the inadequate healthcare system. Only 27% of people from these groups have access to necessary health services. The joint project of action medeor and the local partner organization WARDI aims to change this: As part of the project, various measures are being implemented to sustainably improve healthcare in the project area. State structures of the Ministry of Health are supported through further training and regular exchange between the districts as well as through the promotion of coordinated quality assurance measures and continuous mentoring. This contributes directly to the improvement of health services in all health facilities in the six districts. Furthermore, the construction and equipping of the Kalkal Health Center is an important component of the project. The facility will offer essential health services free of charge in accordance with national standards. Further training for healthcare staff and the operation of the new clinic will make an important contribution to providing healthcare for around 88,000 people. Another key project component is building the capacity of the health facility staff, the management teams and WARDI in the area of gender and inclusion-oriented program work and implementation.
