Tanzania Specialists of the future: Scholarships for Master's students Programs In 2017, there were 73 pharmacists per 100,000 inhabitants in Germany. In the same year, the Federal Employment Agency officially classified the pharmacy profession as a shortage occupation for the first time. In Tanzania, on the other hand, there are fewer than three pharmacists per 100,000 inhabitants. The result: there is a lack of well-trained pharmaceutical staff throughout the country's healthcare system - in hospitals, in the pharmaceutical industry, in the drug and health authorities and, in particular, at universities for teaching and research. An additional problem is that well-trained pharmacists often leave the country to study for further qualifications abroad and often do not return to their home country afterwards. Support from the action medeor foundation This is where action medeor comes in and enables scholarship holders to enroll in a master's degree program at Muhimbili University in Dar es Salaam (MUHAS), the capital of Tanzania. During the two-year scholarship, the action medeor Foundation finances the university fees, the publication of the master's thesis and the living expenses of the students so that they can concentrate on their studies. After all, it is only through the further training of talented young academics that it is possible for pharmaceutical structures to develop in Tanzania in the medium term. The scholarship holders are selected by the MUHAS in a two-stage process based on their professional qualifications and motivation following an announcement and application phase.
