The Executive Board and Supervisory Board of action medeor provided insights into the humanitarian projects the organization implements in many developing and emerging countries, while also looking ahead to the future of the “emergency pharmacy of the world,” as action medeor is also known.

Chair of the Executive Board Sid Peruvemba pointed to the numerous crises worldwide, which occur so frequently that the suffering of individuals is often overlooked. What these crises have in common, however, is the crucial importance of a functioning healthcare system. “When this is lacking, the weakest are affected first: children, the elderly, people with chronic illnesses, and those living in poverty,” Peruvemba emphasized. This is precisely why the work of action medeor is so important. “It means more than providing care in acute emergencies. It means preserving people’s dignity,” Peruvemba concluded.

Action medeor is currently active in many of these crises. Following the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the organization is providing protective equipment, disinfectants, and diagnostic devices. In Syria, action medeor is helping establish a blood bank used by several hospitals. In Malawi, palliative care patients in very remote villages are supplied with medicines. And in Ukraine, the organization supports, among other initiatives, a mobile pharmacy that delivers medicines to people living near the front line.

At the same time, the organization faces new challenges as public funding for humanitarian aid and development cooperation has been significantly reduced. The Executive Board and Supervisory Board of action medeor have responded accordingly. “In the future, we will focus even more strongly on the core mission of our organization, which is to ensure that people in crisis situations have access to healthcare,” said President Siegfried Thomaßen. Fortunately, the organization continues to receive strong support from loyal donors and was even able to slightly exceed its fundraising target for 2025.

The organization also looked with optimism at its activities in Tanzania and Malawi, where action medeor operates branches in several locations. “The inauguration of the new medicines warehouse in Tanzania, supported by the Rottendorf Foundation, was one of the highlights of the year,” Thomaßen concluded. “We experienced a highly committed team there. The warehouse is now fully stocked, and support for hospitals has reached a high level,” the action medeor President added.

Overall, action medeor is therefore looking confidently to the future. That the members share this positive assessment was also evident in the subsequent elections. President Siegfried Thomaßen and board member Dr. Ulrich Viefers were both unanimously confirmed in their positions on the organization’s Presidium.
