Tribute to a Craftsman from St. Tönis: action medeor Awards Felix Wiemes Memorial Prize Press releases 13 December 2024 For the eleventh time, the action medeor foundation has awarded the Felix Wiemes Memorial Prize in recent days. The prize is awarded to pharmacy students at the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) in Tanzania who have distinguished themselves through outstanding achievements. It is not only intended as support for young pharmacists in Tanzania but also as a tribute to a craftsman from the region. “Felix Wiemes was an old-school craftsman from St. Tönis. As a self-employed electrician, he not only had a large customer base but was also a role model for integrity, helpfulness, and reliability for many,” says Christian Hülsemann, himself an entrepreneur from Tönisvorst. When Felix Wiemes passed away in 2012 at just 47 years old, he and his wife Britta Marmulla initiated the creation of the Felix Wiemes Fund under the umbrella of the action medeor foundation. “We were close friends and wanted to give those who knew and appreciated him the opportunity never to forget him,” Hülsemann explains the decision made back then. Together with action medeor, the Felix Wiemes Memorial Prize was established at that time. It supports young people who embody the same values as the late craftsman from St. Tönis. Since the aid organization action medeor from Tönisvorst had already been committed to strengthening the Tanzanian health system at that time, they have been supporting the training of pharmacists in the East African country ever since. This year, two students from the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) were awarded the prize. Young student Aneth Aristides Toroto completed the sixth semester of her Pharmaceutical Quality Assurance studies as the best in her class. But not only that: she also serves as the class representative for her year and is active in the Tanzanian Pharmacy Students Association. She shares this trait with Samson Holowa Choga, the second prize winner. He is also active in the Tanzanian Pharmacy Students Association and has even served as its Secretary-General and as a student representative on the university council. “We are delighted that through the Felix Wiemes Memorial Prize, we can support two such dedicated young individuals who not only excel in their studies but also go above and beyond to engage with others,” says Angela Zeithammer, Managing Director of the action medeor foundation. Christian Hülsemann adds: “This is exactly in the spirit of Felix Wiemes: The award named after him recognizes virtues such as diligence and helpfulness – not just excellence but also those among them who support others.” Your Contact Dr. Markus Bremers Press spokesman Phone: +49 2156 9788-178 TPL_EMAIL This email address is being protected from spambots.
