Photo: action medeor Ukraine Life-saving healthcare and protection for people affected by the war in Ukraine Programs The war between Russia and Ukraine continues with great intensity. According to the UN, the scale and intensity of the attacks have increased significantly. Medical care is being increasingly disrupted by the damage caused by the war. Healthcare and protection for people in Ukraine The war in Ukraine is posing enormous challenges to healthcare provision in many areas. Particularly in areas close to the front line and those that are difficult to reach, healthcare facilities have been damaged, medical staff are under severe strain, and access to essential healthcare services for the population is limited. This is precisely where a comprehensive aid project, in which action medeor is involved alongside several partner organisations, comes into play. The aim of the project is to improve access to life-saving medical care and humanitarian protection services for people who are particularly vulnerable and affected by the war. To this end, healthcare facilities and medical staff are being strengthened, mobile medical services are being supported, and emergency preparedness measures are being expanded. Psychosocial support and protection services are also part of the project. Medicines and medical equipment where they are needed action medeor plays a central role in this: together with the relevant authorities in Ukraine, it procures and supplies vital medicines, medical equipment and consumables. In addition, action medeor provides freeze-dried blood plasma. Distribution takes place at national level in coordination with the Ukrainian Ministry of Health and the Ukraine Transplant Coordination Centre. The aid is focused in particular on the frontline regions in the east and south of the country. For action medeor, the project area comprises Kharkiv, Sumy and Dnipro, as well as Mykolaiv and Kherson. Project descriptionProject Goal: This project is a comprehensive, two-year humanitarian initiative designed to address the ongoing impact of the war on the Ukrainian healthcare system. Led by Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe e.V. and co-led by action medeor e.V., the consortium brings together seven organisations, including the Ukrainian partners 100% Life, ELEOS and Mission Kharkiv, as well as the international partners UK-Med and INTERSOS. As part of the project, primary healthcare is being strengthened, essential medicines and medical equipment are being provided, mobile medical teams are being supported, and emergency preparedness and capacity to deal with mass casualty incidents are being expanded.
