Photo: action medeor/HEIC Tanzania Technology for Life – Strengthening Medical Equipment Functionality in rural Tanzania Programs Tanzania is characterised by widespread poverty. The shortcomings of the healthcare system are particularly evident in rural areas. Healthcare provision in Tanzania remains inadequate. This is felt most acutely by those sections of the population living in the country’s more rural regions, who are already at a disadvantage. Poor infrastructure and a lack of clean drinking water, sanitation and electricity are still the reality in these areas. This is precisely where the new action medeor project comes in: the aim is to provide at least 50 healthcare facilities in remote regions of Tanzania, such as Kagera and Mwanza, with ‘technology for life’. In practical terms, this means improving maintenance and repair services for medical and laboratory diagnostic equipment in these regions. The plan is to establish a sustainable framework for improvement: at least 80 technicians and users are to be trained in fault diagnosis, general equipment use and the maintenance of medical equipment. Several million people in Tanzania are set to benefit from this.
