Completed Nutritious meals for internally displaced families in the Gaza Strip Programs Since October 2023, the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip has deteriorated dramatically. Large parts of the population have been displaced multiple times, around 90 percent of water and sanitation infrastructure has been destroyed or damaged, and food supply systems have largely collapsed. According to the World Health Organization, 2.2 million people in Gaza are affected by acute food insecurity. More than half a million people are living under famine conditions (IPC Phase 5 of 5), a further 1.07 million are in emergency conditions (IPC Phase 4), and around 396,000 are experiencing a food crisis (IPC Phase 3). Some 320,000 children under the age of five are acutely malnourished or at risk of malnutrition. Against this backdrop, rapid and targeted emergency interventions are essential to ensure the survival of the affected population. Together with its partner organization United Palestinian Appeal (UPA), action medeor is providing immediate emergency relief by distributing nutritious, hot meals to internally displaced families in shelters between Gaza City and Khan Younis. The meals are prepared by local women’s networks that operate community kitchens and cook using locally available ingredients. This approach not only improves food security but also strengthens women’s economic participation and supports local structures in the Gaza Strip. By September 2025, the project had already distributed 5,000 family meals—enough to feed 25,000 people.
