Togo Help for vulnerable, refugee and displaced girls and women Programs Since 2021, the north of Togo in the border region with Burkina Faso has been affected by terrorist attacks. Violent attacks, kidnappings and crime have also been on the rise in the region since summer 2022. As a result, the situation in northern Togo has continued to escalate and refugee movements have increased. In spring 2024, 50,000 refugees and internally displaced persons were registered in northern Togo. The increasing poverty and violence affect girls and young women in particular: increasing violence and rape, a lack of protection and infrastructure such as healthcare, hygiene, safe accommodation or sufficient food affect them particularly badly. The joint project of action medeor and the local partner organization Petite Soeur à Soeur (PSAS), with which action medeor has been working for many years, addresses these vulnerable girls and women in particular: The project educates them about risks, gives them access to help if they experience violence and supports them by distributing hygiene kits.
