After the earthquake: Medical aid has arrived in Venezuela

In the aftermath of the earthquake in Venezuela, the medical aid organization action medeor has stepped up its relief efforts.

In cooperation with I.S.A.R. Germany, an emergency relief kit containing medicines and medical supplies has now been dispatched to the earthquake-affected area, enabling medical treatment for people on the ground. The shipment includes painkillers, antibiotics and intravenous fluids, as well as wound dressings and compresses, emergency blankets and water purification tablets.

The relief shipment was assembled within just a few hours over the weekend at action medeor’s medical aid warehouse and then transported to the earthquake zone aboard a German Air Force aircraft. There, members of Germany’s Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) received the supplies and delivered them to San Jose Hospital in La Guaira, located in the heart of the disaster area.

action medeor is now assessing how further humanitarian assistance can be provided in Venezuela together with local partner organizations. In the coming weeks and months, tens of thousands of people who have lost everything will require shelter, clean water, hygiene supplies and medicines. To coordinate this support, action medeor – also known as the “World’s Emergency Pharmacy” – is currently in talks with several local aid organizations.

Anyone wishing to support action medeor’s work can do so by making a donation. Donations can be made online at www.medeor.de, where donors can also provide their address to receive a donation receipt. Donations can also be transferred to IBAN DE78 3205 0000 0000 0099 93 at Sparkasse Krefeld, reference: “Worldwide Emergency Aid”.

The alliance “Aktion Deutschland Hilft”, of which action medeor is a member, is also currently appealing for donations for Venezuela. Donations can be made to account DE62 3702 0500 0000 1020 30, reference: “Venezuela Earthquake”.
