action medeor awards the Felix Wiemes Memorial Prize Press releases 29 December 2025 For the twelfth time, the action medeor Foundation has awarded the Felix Wiemes Memorial Prize in recent days. The prize is awarded to pharmacy students at the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania who have distinguished themselves through outstanding achievements. The prize is intended not only as support for young pharmacists in Tanzania, but also as a remembrance of Felix Wiemes, a craftsman from the region. This year marked the first award ceremony following the unexpected death of the prize donor Christian Hülsemann. “Felix Wiemes was a role model for many in terms of decency, helpfulness, and reliability,” says Christian Hülsemann’s widow, Britta Marmulla. “My husband also oriented himself toward these values, and it was a matter close to his heart to support young people who live by these values as well.” For this reason, Britta Marmulla and Christian Hülsemann established the Felix Wiemes Memorial Prize in 2012, in cooperation with action medeor. Particularly dedicated students have been supported with the Felix Wiemes Memorial Prize for twelve years. This year, the award went to two female students at the University of Dar es Salaam. Jackline Malavanu was honored for her social commitment. During her four-year pharmacy studies, the graduate organized eleven medical camps and three health symposia to educate the Tanzanian public about the proper use of medications and to promote the fight against antibiotic resistance. The second award recipient is Zainabu Jumanne, who was honored for her outstanding academic achievements. She is also involved on a voluntary basis in the Tanzania Pharmaceutical Students Association and in the Africa Regional Office of the International Pharmaceutical Students' Federation. “We are pleased that through the Felix Wiemes Memorial Prize we are able to support two such dedicated young people who not only give their best in their studies but are also committed beyond that to the well-being of others,” says Angela Zeithammer, Managing Director of the action medeor Foundation. “That the prize particularly honors virtues such as diligence and helpfulness is entirely in the spirit of Felix Wiemes and Christian Hülsemann,” Zeithammer adds.
