action medeor provides 10,000 euros in emergency aid for earthquake victims in Afghanistan Press releases 01 September 2025 Following the severe overnight earthquake in Afghanistan, the health aid organization action medeor is providing 10,000 euros in emergency aid for people in the affected regions. "The money will be used to meet the most urgent needs," says Sid Peruvemba, spokesperson for the board of action medeor. "The focus now is on medical care for the survivors and on food, water, hygiene, and protection for the people who lost everything in the earthquake," Peruvemba added. The aid will be implemented with local partner organizations with whom action medeor is in contact. "At the moment, the situation is still unclear. What is certain, however, is that the earthquake is hitting a region where the humanitarian situation is already very tense," Peruvemba added. "In addition, outside of the major cities, many houses are built of mud. They are generally barely able to withstand an earthquake." The "Emergency Pharmacy of the World," as action medeor is also called, is therefore examining what other aid options can be implemented in the coming days – for example, whether medication deliveries from Germany can be sent at short notice. The aid organization is already in contact with hospitals and health organizations in Afghanistan to determine any possible needs. The fact that the earthquake in Afghanistan is occurring during the monsoon season does not make the situation any easier. "We are already struggling with the most severe flooding in years in the region and also in Pakistan," reports Peruvemba. "The people here are in a dire humanitarian situation due to natural disasters and ongoing conflicts, so we must help."
