Following official end of USAID funding: action medeor responds to missing USAID support Press releases 03 July 2025 14 million additional deaths – this is how dramatic the consequences of U.S. foreign aid cuts are, according to a new study. Millions of people could die from conditions that are easily treatable – simply because the medical aid that could save them is no longer available. The health aid organization action medeor is also feeling the effects of this development. Not long ago, an important shipment of medicines to Yemen was at risk of failing. It was worth 100,000 euros and financed through USAID funding. “We didn’t hesitate and took over the costs,” reports Sid Peruvemba, spokesperson for action medeor’s board. “It was important to us that these life-saving medicines didn’t stay in the warehouse but reached those who need them. And we will step in to cover other missing funding for aid deliveries as much as we can.” In view of the worldwide decline in government support for humanitarian projects, action medeor is now increasingly calling for donations. “Where government funding is cut, civil society assistance becomes even more important to alleviate suffering and save lives,” explains Peruvemba. He adds: “We now need the support of our donors more than ever. Especially regular donations and unrestricted contributions enable us to fill at least part of the gap caused by declining public funding.” Anyone who wants to support the work of action medeor can do so by making a donation.
