With a storage area of 850 square meters, which complies with the WHO Good Storage and Distribution Practices, the new warehouse offers ample space for medicines, medical consumables, hospital supplies, as well as medical and laboratory equipment. From Kibaha, a city near Dar es Salaam, the “World’s Emergency Pharmacy,” as action medeor is also known, will now ensure that high-quality health products reach remote partner hospitals in rural regions of Tanzania. “In a country where a significant portion of the population lives in rural areas and often has limited access to high-quality healthcare, this is an important contribution to achieving nationwide healthcare coverage. And we are fully aware that access to quality healthcare is a human right, not a privilege,” said Menn during the inauguration. The new medicine warehouse was funded by the Rottendorf Foundation, which supports the construction, equipment, and operation of the facility. The support goes beyond the building itself and also includes the development and implementation of quality assurance systems in the coming years. “One of the goals of the Rottendorf Foundation is to promote charitable purposes as well as scientific research. By supporting the medicine warehouse, which meets international quality standards, we aim to make a sustainable and tangible contribution,” said Dr. Lilian Klewitz-Haas, a member of the foundation’s board, who attended the inauguration in person. “We are deeply grateful for this visionary and sustainable support from the Rottendorf Foundation,” emphasized Thomas Menn on behalf of action medeor. In addition to the new warehouse, an administrative building was also inaugurated, providing modern and professional workplaces for over 20 specialists. “By creating high-quality technical jobs, especially in the fields of pharmacy and medical technology, which require specialized knowledge, we are not only strengthening healthcare but also fostering economic growth in the region,” explained Dr. Angela Zeithammer and Christoph Bonsmann, who are responsible for the operational management of action medeor. Both emphasized: “It is the dedication and expertise of our employees that are central to the success of this vision. We build on their remarkable competence and recognize that it is their commitment that ensures the lasting impact of our activities.” The new buildings in Kibaha also set new standards in terms of sustainability. They were constructed using environmentally conscious materials, and their architecture reflects the values of transparency and openness that action medeor stands for. “And beyond its physical structure, we see action medeor in Kibaha as a center for knowledge exchange, a place where ideas emerge and are shared, and where innovations in medical care and public health can flourish,” explained Zeithammer and Bonsmann. Compared to the modest conditions under which action medeor began its involvement in Tanzania 20 years ago, this is a tremendous step forward, emphasized Thomas Menn. He also expressed personal admiration for the development: “As Vice President of action medeor in Germany, it is breathtaking for me to see how all these joint efforts to improve access to healthcare are taking shape here in Kibaha,” he concluded. “Let us celebrate this as a symbol of progress, partnership, and our shared commitment to a healthier future for all people in Tanzania.” Your Contact Person Dr. Markus Bremers Press spokesman Phone: +49 2156 9788-178 TPL_EMAIL This email address is being protected from spambots.
