This was announced by the foundation and the medical aid organization action medeor. According to the announcement, the construction, setup, and operation of the 850-square-meter warehouse will be supported by the Rottendorf Foundation over four years until the end of 2027. The warehouse will be located in Kibaha, a suburb of Dar es Salaam, where action medeor, also known as the “World’s Emergency Pharmacy,” already operates a medical training center and a production facility for laboratory reagents. With the establishment of the medication warehouse, the Rottendorf Foundation and action medeor aim to make a significant contribution to improving the quality of medication supply in Tanzania and neighboring countries. “Through more efficient storage and distribution of medications and medical products, local health centers and hospitals will be better served,” explains Sid Peruvemba, spokesperson for the board of action medeor. “The warehouse will not only improve medical care for people in the region but will also serve as a hub for distributing medications to Malawi, Burundi, and Rwanda,” adds Peruvemba. For the Rottendorf Foundation, these were key criteria for supporting the project. “The objective of improving medication supply, the scale of the project, and its regional focus on multiple countries convinced us to support this initiative,” explains Hermann-Ulrich Viskorf, Chairman of the Board of the Rottendorf Foundation. The nonprofit foundation is the sole shareholder of “Rottendorf Pharma GmbH” in Ennigerloh, Westphalia, and uses proceeds from its shares to support charitable purposes, among other things. “Our foundation charter obliges us to make medications more accessible in poorer regions of the world. By supporting the medication warehouse in Tanzania, we aim to make a sustainable and impactful contribution,” Viskorf explains. The medication warehouse plays a critical role in achieving the goal of improving healthcare for a growing population. “Only when medications and medical products are consistently available can treatable diseases be managed effectively and promptly,” explains Sid Peruvemba. “This is especially important for children under five, as child mortality remains highest in Sub-Saharan Africa. Many common illnesses in young children, such as diarrhea, fever, and other infections, can be effectively treated with the right medications, preventing fatalities,” he adds. For the Rottendorf Foundation, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in early December 2024, this objective holds special significance. “Using profits from Rottendorf Pharma for the new project is a message we want to convey not only externally but also internally to the staff at Rottendorf Pharma,” says Hermann-Ulrich Viskorf. “We want the employees to identify with this project. They should know that their work makes a difference.” The Rottendorf Foundation and action medeor are now pursuing this joint project in several phases. The first phase—planning and approval—has already been completed, and construction is currently underway. Subsequently, the warehouse will be equipped, staff will be trained, and a trial operation will commence. At the same time, a quality management system will be established to ensure the warehouse meets all international standards and operates under an ISO system. By the summer of 2025, the warehouse is scheduled to be officially inaugurated, and regular operations will begin. The Rottendorf Foundation’s support will extend beyond this timeline, continuing until 2027. The funding covers not only the construction and setup of the warehouse but also its operation and potential expansion. “We are very grateful for the generous support from the Rottendorf Foundation,” emphasizes Sid Peruvemba of action medeor. “This commitment demonstrates a high level of social responsibility and a keen awareness of the needs of people worldwide for whom access to quality healthcare is not a given.” Donate Health Your donation enables us to provide medical care to people in crisis and disaster regions.
