Aid organisation responds to revere humanitarian crisis: action medeor intensifies assistance for Sudan

In light of the ongoing severe humanitarian crisis in Sudan, the health aid organization action medeor is intensifying its humanitarian assistance for the people in need there.

Known as the "Emergency Pharmacy of the World," action medeor works with various local and international partners to provide essential supplies to the people on the ground. A shipment of vital medications, medical equipment, and surgical materials has already arrived in Sudan. This includes, among other things, painkillers, antibiotics, and treatments for diarrheal diseases. For the second half of the year, action medeor plans additional shipments of aid to the south and west of the country.

Due to the ongoing armed conflict in Sudan, the living conditions of the people have severely deteriorated. "About 25 million people are dependent on humanitarian aid, which is almost half of the population," reports Sid Peruvemba, spokesperson for action medeor. Almost one in three people in Sudan suffers from acute food insecurity. "And the already fragile healthcare system is currently being strained by a high number of internally displaced persons and looming disease outbreaks," says Peruvemba.

Action medeor, together with its partners, supports various facilities in Sudan with medications and medical equipment. "This ranges from the UN Refugee Agency to individual hospitals," reports Peruvemba. Even in Libya, action medeor is now becoming active: A mobile clinic is planned to help Sudanese refugees there.

"One of the worst humanitarian crises of our time is unfolding in Sudan. Therefore, we are now examining how we can expand our aid efforts for the people in Sudan with various partners," announces Peruvemba. "The extent to which we succeed will also depend on the willingness of people in Germany to donate."
