The team is investigating the situation in Adana, Kilis, Islahiye and Hatay, where the earthquake has caused severe destruction. “The damage is enormous, and so is the plight of the people,” Markus Bremers reports , who is on the ground for action medeor. “Thousands have lost their homes and can no longer return to them, many of them spend the night outdoors for fear of being buried in an aftershock.” Together with Turkish and Syrian partner organizations, action medeor has started to provide the surviving earthquake victims with shelter, food, water and blankets. “The people have nothing left, it's about very basic things,” Bremers reports. In the coming days and weeks, action medeor will therefore organize the distribution of warm meals for the people. action medeor also wants to help with access to healthcare. “The hospitals in Turkey are working at full speed, but not everyone can get there, there are no buses or cabs”, Bremers explains. That is why action medeor will be putting together mobile health teams to travel to the people over the next few weeks. They will carry out initial examinations and minor treatments and, if necessary, organize transport to hospital. The aid organization is also active in northern Syria. Together with various local partner organizations, action medeor is supporting several initial reception hospitals and mobile clinics, and here too people are being provided with food and blankets. The aid organization will provide at least 100,000 euros for this purpose. In addition, more medicines and medical equipment will be sent from the medicine warehouse in Tönisvorst. “The people in Syria particularly need our help,” Bremers states, ”because many of them have already lost their homes because they had to flee the cruel war. The earthquake in Syria has hit the weakest of all people." If you would like to support the work of action medeor, you can make a donation.
