In view of the devastation caused by Cyclone Freddy in Malawi, Mozambique and Madagascar, the health aid organization action medeor is providing 20,000 euros in emergency aid for the medical care of the suffering population. The aid organization, which is also known as the “emergency pharmacy of the world”, has its own branches in the Malawian cities of Lilongwe and Blantyre, which are now located in the middle of the disaster zone. “Our Malawian colleagues are telling us about destroyed buildings, flooding and power and water supply failures,” Sid Peruvemba, spokesman for the action medeor board, says. “We are lucky that our training centers and medicine warehouses in Malawi are still operational despite the devastation.” In order to contribute to the medical care of the people in the disaster area, action medeor will now supply the surrounding hospitals with medicines and medical supplies. “We don't have a clear picture yet, but we are expecting many additional patients in the clinics,” Peruvemba explains. “The task now is to prepare those facilities that are still accessible and functional in the best possible way for the large number of patients.” To this end, action medeor has now made the emergency aid of 20,000 euros available at short notice.
