The recipient of the aid shipment is the Indira Ghandi Children's Hospital in Kabul; the transport was made possible by a donation from the DEICHMANN Foundation The children's hospital lacks the most basic necessities. Both medicines and basic medical consumables such as bandages and disposable cannulas are currently urgently needed. The DEICHMANN Foundation has donated 70,000 euros to action medeor to finance aid shipments of urgently needed medicines and medical supplies. Since the Taliban came to power, the social situation in Afghanistan has worsened. People are starving, more than three million children suffer from malnutrition and many fall ill. Medical care is scarce. The existing healthcare facilities are constantly running out of medical equipment and medicines. "The situation in the country is devastating. Two thirds of the population in Afghanistan suffer from acute food shortages. We are happy to be able to help the local people directly with this donation and thank the employees of action medeor for their extraordinary commitment,” Jakob Adolf, project coordinator of the DEICHMANN Foundation, explains. With the support of the DEICHMANN Foundation, the first aid shipments for Afghanistan started in 2022. Urgently needed medicines, infusion solutions, vitamins, therapeutic food, bandages and medical consumables such as feeding tubes and disposable cannulas were sent by truck and air freight. Thanks to the support of the DEICHMANN Foundation, action medeor was also able to finance several patient monitors and oxygen concentrators, which are used in Afghanistan to treat respiratory diseases and moderate coronavirus infections. The main focus of the delivery is on the care of infants and young children. “We are very grateful for the generous donation from the DEICHMANN Foundation, which will help many children and families in Kabul,” Sid Peruvemba, spokesman for the board of action medeor, emphasizes. Social commitment has always been part of the self-image of the Essen-based family business DEICHMANN. Through the DEICHMANN Foundation, the family and the company have therefore supported many charitable and social projects for decades and are involved in various areas of humanitarian aid. This also includes emergency and disaster relief.
