President Siegfried Thomaßen put it in a nutshell: “The team's ability to respond to crises and provide humanitarian aid in connection with the war in Ukraine is unparalleled in the history of our aid organization,” Thomaßen to the assembled members said. He referred to the impressive support of many donors who had enabled action medeor to provide aid on a large scale. “A strong increase in media response, the high level of donations received and the resulting higher efficiency of action medeor prove that this effort has paid off,” Thomaßen emphasized.

Beforehand, Board Spokesman Sid Peruvemba and the senior staff of action medeor had presented impressive figures to the members. Since February 2022, the aid organization has been able to send around 560 tons of relief supplies to Ukraine alone, as well as around 2,500 medical devices and 14 ambulances. The number of donors has almost doubled and the media reach has even quintupled. “The global relevance of the world's emergency pharmacy was impressively confirmed,” Peruvemba summarized.

Despite the particular challenges posed by the war in Ukraine, action medeor has succeeded in maintaining a high level of basic work in medical aid, medical technology and program work, President Siegfried Thomaßen summed up. "We have not neglected our mission to make health available to people around the world - even though the entire team was stretched to the limit by the aid to Ukraine. This deserves the utmost respect,” Thomaßen said under the applause from the members.

Of course, the members' meeting was also used to take a look at current issues for 2023 and strategic topics for the future. These included current support for the earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria as well as aid for people in Malawi and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which have been hit by severe flooding. CEO Sid Peruvemba reported that there are plans to build up further emergency aid capacities in the future and that more emergency medicine will be stockpiled in the future. In addition, strengthening the locations in Tanzania and Malawi is a declared goal for the future. There, action medeor provides access to medicines and medical products, trains medical staff and will soon start producing laboratory reagents needed for medical diagnostics.

Finally, there were also personnel decisions to be made in the Executive Committee at the General Assembly. President Siegfried Thomaßen and Assessor Ulrich Viefers were unanimously confirmed in their positions by the members. Incidentally, both stand for particular continuity: Thomaßen is entering his tenth year as President of action medeor, Viefers his tenth year as a member of the Executive Committee.
