The group led by club board member Arnd Hovemann, project manager Claudia Beckers and former Fortuna player Oliver Fink took a tour of the medicine warehouse to find out about the wide range of aid projects that action medeor manages from Tönisvorst in the Lower Rhine region. He discussed support for the people in Ukraine, earthquake emergency aid in Turkey and Syria and the so-called “forgotten crises”, such as those in Malawi and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The background to the visit was the long-standing partnership between Fortuna Düsseldorf and action medeor. The sports club has been supporting the activities of the “emergency pharmacy of the world”, as action medeor is also known, since 2012. For example, when war broke out in Ukraine two years ago, the Düsseldorf club actively appealed for donations for action medeor's Ukraine aid. Most recently, Fortuna joined forces with its social partner, Deutsche Postcode Lotterie, to make a donation of 10,000 euros for the victims of the earthquake in Syria. The donation enabled action medeor to put together a relief shipment containing medicines and urgently needed medical supplies for the people in the earthquake regions. The visitors were welcomed to action medeor by CEO Christoph Bonsmann, who presented the work of the aid organization together with Communications Manager Angela Zeithammer and Jasmin Herholz, Corporate Cooperation Officer. “We are happy and also a little proud to have a partner like Fortuna Düsseldorf at our side who supports us again and again - not only financially, but also organizationally and ideally with a variety of campaigns, public appeals and special appreciation,” Christoph Bonsmann concludes.
