Since 2014, around 200 pharmacies have been involved in this initiative. They collect donations and provide information about the work of action medeor. The St. Tönis Hirsch pharmacy on Hochstrasse is one of these pharmacies, although owner Ralf Weckop has been supporting action medeor for much longer. “We've had an action medeor donation box in our pharmacy since 2003,” the owner says.

But even he was amazed when he found out how much money has been raised over the years: customers of the Hirsch pharmacy and the owner have donated more than 10,000 euros over the past 20 years. “When you consider that people usually only put small change in the donation boxes, that's a really impressive sum,” Stephanie Wickerath from action medeor, says, who looks after the pharmacies. Ralf Weckop and his team are delighted with the impressive sum. “We visited the medicine warehouse in Vorst many years ago and learned about the work,” pharmacist Weckop says. He was impressed by the charity's concept. “And it was clear to us that we wanted to provide long-term support because there are so many crisis areas in the world and help is always needed,” the pharmacist explains.

This is also confirmed by Christoph Bonsmann, pharmacist and board member of action medeor: “The long-term and reliable support of pharmacies is a great benefit for us. We can use the donations to provide better access to health worldwide - quickly and in the short term in the event of a disaster, but also in the long term and sustainably by expanding and supporting pharmaceutical and medical structures."
