Help for the people of Sudan Press releases 17 April 2024 Cooperation between MOAS and action medeor: An aid shipment for Sudan is in the starting blocks In view of the dramatic humanitarian situation in Sudan, the health aid organization action medeor is currently preparing a major aid delivery to the crisis-ridden African country. Together with the aid organization MOAS, action medeor has put together several medical emergency kits that are currently waiting in the Netherlands to be shipped to Sudan. The kits contain vital medicines such as painkillers, antibiotics and drugs to treat diarrhea, as well as medical equipment and surgical material. The recipient of the aid shipment, which has a total value of around 100,000 euros, is the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) in Sudan. From there, the relief supplies will be distributed to the refugee camps and small health stations. “In view of the many crises on our doorstep, the fate of the people in Sudan and other countries is unfortunately quickly forgotten,” Angela Zeithammer, Director of action medeor, explains. "But the humanitarian situation in Sudan is dramatic, people are at risk of dying from hunger and lack of medical care. 70 percent of the health facilities in Sudan are no longer functional. That is why we are currently appealing for donations for Sudan”, Zeithammer says. If you would like to support the work of action medeor, you can make a donation online at www.medeor.de/spenden or by bank transfer via IBAN DE78320500000000009993 at Sparkasse Krefeld, keyword: “Emergency aid worldwide”. Sudan is currently experiencing the largest refugee crisis in the world due to armed conflicts, with almost 9 million people on the run. A major famine is also looming. 18 million of Sudan's 49 million people are considered to be at risk of starvation, and at least four million children are malnourished. The country's refugee camps are overcrowded, with a lack of sanitary facilities, food, medicine and healthcare.
