Floods in Afghanistan: action medeor provides emergency aid

Persistent heavy rains have claimed more than 400 lives in Afghanistan since the beginning of the month. action medeor is providing 30,000 euros for emergency relief measures.

The north and center of the country are particularly affected by the floods. A team from the local partner organization Union Aid has traveled to the north of the country to gain an overview of the current situation of the people in the particularly affected areas, which are often difficult to access.

"We are currently working with the local partner organization to determine which aid measures should be implemented as a first step. This depends on the most urgent needs of the people on the ground: distributions of food or hygiene kits are possible, for example,” Angela Zeithammer from the board of action medeor reports.

Since the end of February, Afghanistan has been repeatedly hit by above-average rainfall and flooding. More than 60,000 people have been affected - the already tense humanitarian situation in the country has been exacerbated by these weather extremes for years.
