After shelling of a children's hospital in Kiev: action medeor expands medical aid for Ukraine

Following yesterday's attacks on civilian medical facilities in Ukraine, which included a children's hospital in Kiev, the aid organization action medeor has responded by expanding its medical aid for Ukraine.

Today, the “emergency pharmacy of the world”, as action medeor is also known, released 50,000 euros in emergency aid to help surrounding hospitals in Kiev with urgently needed medicines. In addition, further support for Ukrainian healthcare facilities is planned together with German and Ukrainian authorities.

"We are in contact with various hospitals in and around Kiev and are currently sounding out their requirements, i.e. exactly which medicines are needed. At the same time, we will be expanding our support for the Ukrainian healthcare system in partnership with the German Federal Foreign Office,” explains Sid Peruvemba, spokesman of the action medeor board. “To this end, we are contacting the Ukrainian emergency aid coordination to plan further aid measures.”

At the same time, the aid organization is appealing for further donations. “Our aid can only ever be as extensive as the donations we receive,” explains Peruvemba. However, donations have been declining overall in recent months. “We could help even more if we had the funds available,” Peruvemba points out, “so we are grateful for every single donation that also enables us to help the people in Ukraine.”

Since the military escalation in February 2022, action medeor has been supporting around 180 hospitals and healthcare facilities in Ukraine with urgently needed medicines, medical equipment and medical technology. Since then, the aid organization has sent a total of 280 aid shipments with over 900 tons of medicines and medical equipment to Ukraine.
