Photo: Jahrmarkt Wissen e.V. 57th Wissen Fair supports midwifery school in Sierra Leone Events The 57th Wissen Fair in 2026 will be held under the theme ‘Well looked after from the very start’ – thereby sending a strong message in support of the health of mothers and newborns in Sierra Leone. On 26 and 27 September 2026, the fair will once again offer a weekend full of music, socialising and generosity, in aid of action medeor’s midwifery school. This year, the fair is supporting the joint project run by action medeor and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, which aims to strengthen midwifery training in Sierra Leone. Maternal and infant mortality rates there are among the highest in the world; qualified midwives are urgently needed. By 2028, the project aims, amongst other things, to equip healthcare facilities, provide further training for midwives and raise awareness of mother and child health within communities. The fair’s fundraising target is 74,666 euros. The new poster design by the artist Mia Geimer-Stangier draws on a historical image from 1984 and depicts a mother protecting her child – an image that fosters a sense of closeness and immediately conveys the message of this year’s project. Photo: Jahrmarkt Wissen e.V. Patron Julian Schmitz-Avila, known from the TV programme “Bares für Rares”, will once again be attending the fair. The opening ceremony will take place on Saturday, 26 September, at 10.30 am. Entertainment will be provided by Soulmatic, the band Hännes, Frau Kurze and the first class, as well as numerous dance groups from Wissen and the surrounding area. New stalls such as ‘Pasteria – one pasta, many temptations’ will also be making their debut. action medeor, together with the Wissen Fair, is looking forward to a lively weekend – and to making a difference together.
