Midwife Joyce reports from Sierra Leone Close-up 01 July 2022 Joyce is one of the first students to graduate from the midwifery school in Sierra Leone. When the midwifery school opened in 2017, there were just under 320 midwives in the entire country. Now—five years later—there are more than four times as many: 1,400 midwives. One of them is Joyce, who completed her training at the midwifery school run by action medeor and the local partner Caritas Bo.
