Our work is more important than ever: The COVID-19 pandemic exacerbates the health situation worldwide.
The year 2020 stands in the shadow of COVID 19. The pandemic, which has already caused more than 600,000 deaths worldwide, is a huge problem even for healthcare systems that are well equipped. Countries with a lack of appropriate medical care face even greater struggles with the current situation. More than ever, action medeor is aware that global health depends on access to good, high-quality medicines and medical supplies.
In view of these new challenges, our annual report focusses on the positive developments that action medeor was able to bring about in 2019.
In case of emergencies, we are able to deliver medical aid to the disaster area within 24 hours. This was the case in 2019 when cyclone Idai hit Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe. Additional aid was made available through our action medeor subsidiaries in Tanzania and Malawi. Besides cyclone Idai, our efforts focused on Yemen, South Sudan, Syria and Benin. We sent medicines and medical supplies worth 7.6 million euros to our partners in 101 different countries worldwide. In total, 14,700 packages weighing 521 tons left our warehouse.
