Building on good experiences of the branch in Tanzania, action medeor has opened its second branch in Lilongwe, Malawi in September 2015.

Access to high quality medicines and medical supplies

action medeor Malawi serves as a complementary procurement and distribution organisation supporting the already existing pharmaceutical supply system in Malawi. The major goal is to provide access to affordable, high quality and essential medicines and medical supplies to the Malawian people.

The wide range of generic medicines based on the WHO List of Essential Medicines as well as a variety of medical devices are stored in a 500 square meter warehouse in the capital of Malawi, Lilongwe. The warehouse, offices and organisational structure of action medeor Malawi was set-up with the great support by Bread for the World and Jungheinrich AG, the cooperation partner of action medeor.

Our target groups are the non-commercial health sector, and public institutions, the health sector of faith-based groups as well as of national and international non-governmental and charitable organizations in Malawi. Strengthen local structures

action medeor Malawi offers pharmaceutical consultancy services to non-commercial health care providers, national regulatory authorities and local manufacturers to support locally produced medicines in compliance with high quality standards at affordable prices. The promotion of functioning pharmaceutical supply chains guarantees improved availability of medicines and reduces the dependency of international expensive imports.

action medeor and its subsidiaries draw on years of experiences and competences in various skill-oriented trainings, workshops and individual consultancy, transferring know-how and practice in Good Manufacturing Practices, Good Distribution Proctices and Good Regulatory Practice.

action medeor Malawi has adopted high standards of quality assurance ensuring our goal of safe, effective and good quality products.

How do we achieve high quality?

  • All supplying manufacturers or distributers have to comply with- and be certified in Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
  • Regular on-site audits of manufacturers at place control full compliance with GMP
  • All medicines are registered by the Pharmacy Medicines and Poisons Board (PMPB) and are subject to strict quality assurance mechanisms
  • Selected products are tested by certified and independent laboratories
  • All products are procured with maximum shelf life
  • Each product is accompanied with the certificate of analysis of the medicine
  • Well trained pharmacists supported by modern stock management system ensure Good Warehouse Practice

Support health institutions directly

action medeor Malawi supplies medicines and medical devices to hospitals, health dispensaries and health centres to faith-based, public, non-governmental and charitable organisations throughout Malawi. Most of the health care service providers serve the poor and vulnerable population in remote areas at no or low cost.
